The coaggulation of colloidal particles can be triggered by the addition of aluminium sulphate (Al2(SO4)3).
The highly charged aluminium ions attract the negatively charged colloid particles and cause them to clump together, a process known as flocculation.
On standing the flocculated particles will tend to settle out.
