Definition of potable water
A potable water supply is one which is drinkable.
Potable water must
- be free of pathogens (disease causing organisms)
- have a desirable
- taste
- odour (smell)
- colour and
- turbidity (cloudiness) and
- contain no harmful chemicals.
Natural water from a river, lake or borehole usually has to be treated
to make it potable.
